Building upon last years success in the this global competition where I had an image awarded, I was delighted to find that 3 images were awarded 'Honourable Mentions' in two different categories. The contest received over 8000 submissions from 81 countries from around the globe. It's pretty cool to see my images from 3 different counties in Ireland (Cavan, Mayo & Louth) up there in the mix.
An image of mine that was taken on the Bluestack Mountains, Ireland was awarded an Honourable Mention in the 2016 IPA™ One Shot: Climate Change competition. The image titled 'Harness the Earth' depicts how man has gone to extreme lengths to harness the earths energy. The windmills in the image are located deep within the Bluestack Mountains and show how, on this occasion, the huge structures can be dwarfed by the beauty of the landscape and golden light of nature.
I had 2 images awarded in the prestigious panoramic competition run by photo giants Epson. I received a 'Silver Award' for my self portrait on top of Mount Errigal, Ireland, and my panoramic image of Crohy Head Sea Arch, Ireland was awarded a 'Bronze Award'. I don't take a huge number of panoramic images so i'm delighted the two images that I submitted were both awarded.
An 8 minute exposure of Cloughoughter Castle, Cavan, Ireland was awarded an 'Honourable Mention' in the 2016 IPOTY awards in the Historical Architecture category. The image is my second photograph to be awarded an Honourable Mention in Successive years in the IPOTY awards.
My image called 'The Giant's Portrait' featuring my family standing on the basalt rocks of the famous Giant's Causeway featured in the August edition of Practical Photography. I planned and captured the image after my daughter was born as a special memento for her and her brothers to look back on years to come. It is not the usual family portrait and hopefully the image will hang in their homes in years to come.
An image which I named 'Thrilled!" featuring a little flower girl throwing her confetti in the air at a wedding I photographed was awarded an 'Honourable Mention' by the IPA™ in their 'Family of Man competition.
My image of the now famous Bregagh Road AKA The Dark Hedges received an 'Honourable Mention' by the International Photography Awards 2015.
'The Little Boy'- a black and white candid portrait of a young boy was awarded an 'Honourable Mention' in the prestigious International Photographer of the Year competition. The competition received 8000+ entries from countries across the globe.
I had the pleasure of the company of BBC presenter Chris Hollins on one of my photography adventures. The episode which was aired on BBC 1 followed Chris and I as we visited an inscribed cave in County Fermanagh. The cave which I have photographed in the past contains Pagan and early Christian symbols on its walls.
The new year has got off to a flying start for sure! My image titled 'The Breeches' entered into the 2015 Mono Awards International Photography competition and was awarded an 'Honourable Mention' in the Landscapes section. With over 7200 submissions from over 70 countries worldwide I was delighted that my image was recognised and awarded by the international judges panel. I could drool over black and white imagery all day so i'm pretty chuffed right now!
My image 'The Little Boat shed' was published in the February edition of Practical Photography magazine. As a subscriber of the magazine it was nice to see my image in my favourite mag!
I had the pleasure of meeting up with Bryan Gallagher and the guys from Irish TV to talk about photography, family and even skipping the odd dinner! You can watch the feature below to find out more about what I do.
My image called Smitten was chosen as the front cover for Indonesian Airlines inflight magazine 'Colours' for the month of September. Available in the seat pockets aboard all Garuda Indonesia flights and in Garuda Indonesia’s executive lounges, Colours reaches a high-volume readership of 2 million passengers a month.
